Egg donation is a process where a woman
with healthy eggs, the egg donor, donates her eggs to help an
infertile woman become pregnant. Our Texas egg donors complete the entire process of stimulation and retrieval of their eggs at our Dallas, TX fertility clinic.
Donor eggs are often used in women, who are incapable of producing
healthy eggs due to ovarian failure, chemotherapy, radiation treatment,
genetic diseases, or age. In the past, these women had no alternative to help them become
pregnant. Our Texas donor egg program gives these couples new hope for a genetically related child whereas in the past the only option was adoption.
Egg donors must fulfill several
criteria, including:
- Must be between the ages of 21-30
- Egg donors must be monogamous
- Non smoking
- No history of substance abuse
by the egg donor
- Must have a normal body weight (BMI <30)
- No significant history for chronic medical conditions
or genetic diseases
- Must participate in and pass a screening process
including a psychological examination.
- Must have regular /cyclic menstrual cycles when not taking
hormonal birth control (birth control pills, Depo-Provera, etc.)
At least 6 months since last Depot Provera injection
Egg donors must call the Dallas Texas Donor Egg Program office at 214-363-5965 to arrange
a brief telephone interview.
- If a potential donor meets the criteria during
the telephone interview, she will be asked to complete a questionnaire
and return it to our clinic.
- She will schedule an appointment to review the
questionnaire and begin further screening. At this appointment,
she will provide information on the medications, the ovulation
induction cycle, and obtain a signed consent form.
- When the screening blood work is completed, she returns for an appointment (or telephone Consultation)
with a genetics counselor. When this report is received and
approved, we will add her to our current egg donor list and await
selection and matching with a recipient couple.
- Once a donor is matched with a recipient couple
(s), she meets with a psychologist for an
evaluation before proceeding.
Please see our cycle information page.
The egg donor incurs no medical expenses during
the procedure and will be compensated for her time and inconvenience
upon completion of the cycle. This money is
in no way payment for her eggs, rather, it provides compensation
for time lost from employment or away from home and inconvenience while participating in the program.
Please review our Web page on the steps in the egg donation process.
The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM)
sets standards and guidelines that we follow and they
encourage limiting the number of cycles to 6.
Are there any legal aspects regarding egg donation?
In Texas, egg donation has been legislated. Once
an egg donor donates her eggs, she has no legal property rights
to them or any offspring that may result from the
process.
The egg donation process is completely anonymous.
Egg donors are told
the number of eggs retrieved after the procedure.
Egg donors should be motivated
by the sincere desire to help infertile women become pregnant.
The gift of life is something that no one can assess in terms
of material measures. We appreciate the interest that our Donor Egg
Program has generated and are grateful for anyone who desires
to help infertile couples. For interested individuals, we are
pleased to send them our donor packet, which contains the medical
history questionnaires, consents, and personality profile to initiate
acceptance as an egg donor. Most of these forms are also available
on our Web site.
